Uno al día

Old King – Neil Young en el Sarah McLachlan’s Benefit Concert del Ambleside Park de Vancouver el pasado día 12 de septiembre.

Ahora que está la cosa tranquila de descargas porque el Tío Neil está descansando de giras y similares, me estoy planteando aprovechar para inyectar unas vitaminas en mi ratio de Dime.

Y se me ocurre que como no tengo un plan prefijado, voy a compartir un concierto al día. El concierto del día en curso. Por lo menos mientras pueda.

El primero es un concierto precioso y al que yo tengo un gran cariño. Se trata del concierto del día 15 de Septiembre de 2004.

Dos joyas CSNY

Hace tiempo que no aparece por estas páginas algún concierto de Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. La verdad es que su dos últimos tours fueron cubiertos estupendamente y pocas cosas se quedaron en el tintero.

Ahora, dos de esas cosas han salido a la luz de la mano de nuestro colega de fatigas tbugsett en Dime A Dozen. Se trata del concierto de Nashville de 2000 y el concierto de Atlantic City de 2002. ¡A disfrutarlos!

What Happened: Neil Young has earned a reputation as something of a belligerent performer over the years, or at least one stubborn enough to think it’s OK to play an entire album twice in a row and call it a gig. But anyone dreading two hours devoid of the classics and heavy on Chrome Dreams II was in for a treat. The 63-year-old obligingly played for his audience, kicking off with a hammering version of Hey Hey My My (Into the Black), before lunging straight into Mansion on the Hill.
The set was heavy on the Crazy Horse era, with a very, very extended version of Down by the River. There was time to zip through some acoustic numbers, including Heart of Gold, before he worked the crowd up into a frenzy with a version of Rockin’ in the Free World which included at least four blistering breakdowns and additional choruses. By the time he exited the stage at midnight, the crowd were chanting "Neil! Neil!", and he returned for an encore to perform the Beatles A Day in the Life.
High point: Young screaming "Yeaaaahh!" into the mic after breaking virtually every string on his guitar, which he then thumped with the mic stand. Getting in touch with his petulant rock star roots, we expect.

Me lo temía. Tenía que pasar más tarde o más temprano. Y ya ha pasado.

Unos fans de Neil han creado un álbum con remezclas de hip hop con temas de Neil sacados de discos y de boots.

El álbum se llama Beats Never Rust (no podía ser de otra manera) y hacen diez remezclas entre las que se cuentan Southern Man, Cowgirl In The Sand y Like A Hurricane.

La idea es de una pareja llamada Mike O’Brien y Danny Falsafi y pretender hacer un tributo a la carrera del Tío Neil, pero desde una perspectiva hiphopera. Parece ser que la idea se le ocurrió a Mike a partir del visionado de un DVD de un concierto de Young con Booker T & The MG’s, así que ni corto ni perezoso, se dispuso a rebuscar no solo en la discografía oficial, sino en los miles de bootles, grabaciones en directo e incluso entre algunos tributos a Neil.

  

O’Brien le contagió la idea a Falsafi, un productor retirado ya del negocio, y han estado trabajando durante dos meses hasta dar forma a la idea en este tributo a Neil Young.

Track 04 is from the Ballads of the Books compilation, a 2007 collaboration between authors and musicians, on Chemikal Underground. Both highly recommended :-) Martin Henry was recently referred to as "The Scottish Neil Young" and I can understand why. His very individual vocal style and the wonderful depth of feeling in his performance recall classic songwriters such as Neil Young, but the songwriting has a sense of place which is very original. Hi,this is my (Nuno) master of the Neil Young’s concert for the fans and everyone that likes great music!!!
I went to this concert with my girlfriend(Kaycee),and we had seated tickets. There’s some people blocking the image sometimes during the concert because the audience kept getting up and down in front of us, but this was a great concert that proved that Neil is still playing awesome tunes with his guitar and band!
